Axis Design Group was selected by the Gresham-Barlow School District to renovate an existing middle school for capital improvements in response to the voter approved bond measure in November 2016. The school was originally built in the 70’s with a 90’s addition. Axis addressed site lighting, egress pathways, door and window repairs, new windows, T1-11 wood siding and roofing replacement, security upgrades, new secure front entry vestibule, S.T.R.E.A.M classroom/lab, classroom technology, new finishes, kitchen upgrades, acoustic ceilings, classroom lighting/controls, fire alarm system, PA/clock upgrades and e-power generator. Axis was instrumental in the coordination, documentation and detailing the following: creating new classrooms, improving access and flexibility to the cafeteria serving line, new roofing assembly alternates, which lead to an expected competitive bid result, allowing the District to make the best financial decisions for the project. Roof scope included: new built-up bituminous roofing membrane and asphalt composition shingles, associated flashings, dome/guard collar assemblies, conductors, scuppers, curbs for mechanical equipment, copings, roof access ladders, as well as a study to raising the existing roof parapets to accommodate new above deck roof insulation. Additionally, a full structural study was conducted to evaluate the existing gymnasium and library roof for re-roofing as a result of deflecting fiber cement roofing panels.
