 A self-storage facility and office for unit storage for the local neighborhood, on a challenging steep sloped site, adjacent to an environmentally sensitive area with existing beaver damn and several beavers that needed to be protected from any disturbance or loud noises. Additional challenge was the requirement of the building to be as non-intrusive visually as possible from the nearby freeway, with the use of stepping the site steeply to lower the profile of the two-story storage portion as much as possible.  And breaking the storage buildings into four separate buildings, to reduce the massing.  In addition, the portions of the building visible from nearby streets required designing the building to conform to the “Sandy Style” which is a ski lodge like appearance with heavy timber construction, exposed wood details and earth toned colors.
