TROUTDALE DEPOT RENOVATION

TROUTDALE, OR

Area of Work/Building Size: 1,851 S.F.
Completed: June 2022

Axis Design Group provided architectural services for the renovation and adaptive reuse of the historic Troutdale Depot. The project successfully transformed the existing structure into a multifunctional facility comprising a future bike hub, a local museum, and administrative offices. The core objective was to honor the building’s historical significance while seamlessly incorporating modern systems, enhancing accessibility, and integrating sustainability features suitable for its new, community-focused role.

Initial work addressed critical preservation and safety needs, including lead paint abatement and structural remediation, with careful attention paid to preserving original materials. The interior saw significant changes, such as the former office space being opened up to establish a collaborative workspace with higher ceilings that align with the building’s historic architecture. Energy efficiency in lighting was achieved through the installation of LED and track lighting systems.

A major emphasis of the project was the updating of the building’s essential infrastructure. The electrical system was completely upgraded to meet new programmatic requirements, notably including a dedicated 100-amp service to support the bike hub's lighting and operational demands. The HVAC system was also redesigned for greater efficiency, creating distinct climate-controlled zones for the museum, office, and basement areas.
