Axis Design Group was hired to provide architectural services associated with the renovation of the Hogan Cedars Elementary School. The project involved enclosing a covered space adjacent to the existing kitchen, previously used as a trash enclosure, to accommodate a new pre-manufactured walk-in freezer. A new foundation was constructed to support the exterior wall and floor, with materials and structural detailing matching the existing school. Coordination with mechanical, plumbing, and electrical trades ensured the freezer was fully operational, including minor upgrades to extend ductwork, provide a new floor drain, install lighting, and establish power connections while assessing existing panel loads.
In addition to the kitchen expansion, a new covered trash enclosure was constructed on-site, complete with a foundation pad, walls, and roofing consistent with the school’s existing structures. Electrical connections and lighting were also installed to service the enclosure. At the main entry vestibule, new security measures were implemented, including a storefront wall and a transaction counter window, with structural allowances provided for anticipated work. Coordination with district security consultants facilitated installation of access control hardware, camera pathways, and front-office monitor and door release systems, with low-voltage pathways and boxes designed to meet all system requirements.
