Axis Design Group was selected by Clackamas Community College for an expansion and renovation of their Automotive Department in Barlow Hall, that included the Auto Body/Collision Repair & Refinishing Technology, Auto Service Technology, and High School Auto programs.
Axis evaluated the existing building and site, reviewed existing record drawings, and conducted as-built measurements and field verification. After an initial program questionnaire and response period, Axis met with faculty, staff, administration, facilities, and key sub-consultants to discuss programming goals and opportunities. Together, we determined the spatial requirements, identified opportunities and connections, outlined project goals, and introduced unique design elements for the project. We utilized planning diagrams to develop preliminary design options for the College to review. Input and feedback informed the design approach as the process moved forward. All products and finishes proposed met the Colleges standards. Floor plans, site plans, and exterior elevations were developed for preliminary cost estimating. To expedite permitting for construction, a demo and building package were issued.
Improvements included new teaching classrooms, parts/tools storage and service space, new and relocated shop equipment, paint booths, technology upgrades, restrooms, acoustic dampening, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, lighting, building envelope repair, and slab/roof modification.
